gIg (graphicsdesign.org idea generator) is a rather simple free-association tool that people can use to generate ideas for song lyrics, story ideas, conceptual topics whatever. The premise is to generate a random list of words or phrases, which the user can also add to. It also
works as a nice reference for php / mysql newbies to see some of the basics in terms of adding and retrieving items from a db, generating a simple report, verifying user input, etc.

GPLTrans is a PHP-based translator which uses machine translation to translate text to a foreign language. Currently supported languages include English, German, Spanish, French, and Portuguese. It uses MySQL for storing and processing words and text for each languauge.
